Orange County Speakers Bureau

public-speakingLast Wednesday July 11, at 7:00 p.m. I attended the OC Speakers Bureau monthly meeting. What a great experience! Thanks to my friend and experienced Toastmaster Nadine who shared the information with me. We had 3 terrific speeches and I was not really surprised to meet Scot Shier, the immediate past president of OC Toasters (my home Toastmasters club) out there.

Victor Broski introduced the MC for the meeting: Rich Farina.  The first speaker, Jack Nichols shared his experience and convinced everybody in the audience that we all needed websites if we are to do business in these technology driven times. He shared the 5 fingers of professional speaking:

  • Speaking
  • Training
  • Coaching
  • Writing
  • Publishing

To succeed as a professional speaker, you need to effectively be involved in the 5 activities above. Professional speaking is no longer about speaking. Speaking is only 20% of the activities of professional speakers. I had never thought of that but those are the strategies professional speakers like Brian Tracy and Jim Rohn use.

The second speaker, Jeffrey Wolfe helped us “prepare for change”. He shared his experiences as a road captain and the three words I took home from his presentation are:

  • Relationships
  • Adaptability
  • Communication
Jeffrey challenged us to identify and meet someone who could be a coach or mentor and spend a few minutes learning from them. Jeffrey is an excellent speaker.  You can visit Jeffrey’s business website at: http://www.knowledgeactivationstrategies.com/.

The third speaker was Laura LeDoux who shared a personal story and made the audience rethink about their eating habits. Laura shared good amounts of information and gave us handouts which contained alternatives to a lot of toxic foods we ingest. She did a great job and had very good evaluation and feedback from the audience. Find out more about Laura LeDoux on LinkedIn.

The OC Speakers Bureau meets every second Wednesday of the month. You can view archives of the email campaigns and subscribe here: OC Speakers Bureau
